Big Meal Smoothie for Type 2
My grandmother has type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent). She has been in the hospital for a few weeks now and because of her current condition she hasn't been able eat anything more than one Strawberry ensure a day. I would like to make her a smoothie using the Strawberry Ensure (since it's the only thing she wants to eat!) and different fruits, possibly veggies, maybe protiens so that she has a much higher calorie count and is getting more nutrition. I am not sure what to give her or what not to give her so I am turning to the pros! For any ideas please help me <3 thank you.
Full nutrition facts for the Ensure could be found here: http://www.thedailyplate.com/nutrition-calories/food/ensure/ensure-liquid-nutrition-strawberry-health-beverage-in-bottles-6-8-fl.-oz

I really want to try the raw foods diet. Not to lose weight, I just feel that it would be "clean" eating. I'm diabetic type 1. The only problem is that I haven't found any recipes with nutritional info. Have any of you seen raw food diet with nutritional info? Or is there a similar diet that provides nutritional info.?

Hi! I'd posted here asking about the Taste of Home books. I just wanted to let people know that I got them and they are great. The recipes are very good and there is comprehensive nutritional information on them. I've been very happy with everything I've made and my husband is doing great.

Ziplock Steamer bags
We were in WalMart today picking up the usual stuff and they had the sample ladies out. One had a table with the ziplock steaming bags and had made potatoes in them. YUM! So, I took them home and did them myself for lunch. All I did was cut up a couple potatoes, spritz them with about 4 sprays of the spray butter, sprinkled on a bit of salt, pepper, garlic powder, chili powder and parsley flakes. Pop into the microwave for 7 minutes and they came out great. We hadn't been making potatoes much because of the caloric content when you deep fry or mash them, but this was pretty good and well within his calorie restrictions.
I get the Light and Tasty magazine and found this dessert that my husband loves. It can be made with Splenda, but it needs more liquid if you do that, at least double the amount of milk it calls for. Since it's pretty low cal even using sugar, I don't substitute splenda all the time. Also, you can substitute other fruits in it. I've substituted peaches or apples for the nectarines and it's great any way you do it. ( Nectarine Berry BuckleCollapse )
Edit: Sorry, the HTML code was wonky. I hope it's right now.

My husband is newly diagnosed with diabetes. I'm looking at buying some cookbooks for good recipes and was wondering if anyone happens to own any of the Taste of Home diabetic cookbooks? I want to get at least one or two of them and wondered which ones were good? Current Mood: curious

I'm new and gotta Q
Hey. I'm not diabetic but I have a friend who is. And she was reading in the Diabetic Cookbook for Dummies and it said she should mix splenda with something called "pure magic" for baking. What's Pure Magic? Current Mood: curious

Needed: DIabetic Fruitcake Recipe
(posted around a few places)
Hi everyone, I hope it's okay for me to make a request...
One of the staples for the holiday dinner is fruitcake. I make it from a family recipe, and it has tons of sugars in various forms. There's a reason we only eat it once a year!
My uncle, however, has recently been diagnosed with diabetes, and I'm in need of a suitable replacement for the usual recipe. I've googled around and found a few possibilities, but it's hard for me to tell if the cakes will taste good just by looking at their ingredients - some of them seem like they'd turn out pretty sour.
So, does anyone have a tried-and-true diabetic-friendly fruitcake
(fruit cookie, fruit loaf, whatever) recipe that they could share? Current Mood: hopeful

Its canning season so I'm looking for Splenda recipes for those traditional lovely jarred goodies.
My grandma tried to do her Chili Sauce with Splenda rather than sugar but it apparently tasted awful one year so it was a very expensive mistake since she does upwards of 40 jars of the stuff. If anyone has some of these recipes to share please pass them along!!
Specifically I am looking for:
-Non cooked Chili Sauce [but will take anything you got]
-Beets [please for the love of all veggies I would give my right hand for a beet]
So if you have some tried and true canning recipes that you use Splenda in pass them along please.
